Review
Welcome to the wonderful world of doujinshi. Doujins are unofficial, self-published, amateur work that comprises of Japanese H-manga and computer games. For every popular anime and video game series in existence, there is a fan doujin spin off that explores possibilities that didn’t actually occur in the plotline. Pairings such as Ichigo x Yoruichi (Bleach bath scene) and Yaoi matchups Kaiba x Yami Yugi (Yugioh!), Naruto’s Kakashi without his mask appearing as a Bishen, and Pokemon…you don’t want to know.
Doujin Work is based off the manga by Hiroyuki. The mini-series is 12 episodes long. Each episode is 14 minutes including the opening and ending. The official anime website is http://www.doujin.tv/.

» The Pros
Justice rocks hands down even though he can pass as a lolicon.

» The Cons
This is always the hardest section whenever I do a review. Manga > Anime in that it gets away with more.

There is a small set of six characters. Male to female ratio 1:2 for the most part. One more character comes in near the end of the series. For size comparison, you have Sora as the smallest up to Justice towering above the rest. There are generic non-detailed background characters that you'll see listening in on the Najimi's conversations. At some parts the anime feels like a manga strip. There are Paper Mario instances where you see characters flipping, such as Sora and Justice holding hands and spinning around. What's the deal with Tsuyuri's blue underwear pet thingie on the top of her head? |

The lyrics of the OP theme I~jan! Yuujou by MAKI make it seem longer than it really is, 1 minute 30 seconds which is actually typical of anime intros. It's not one of those epic famous Jpop star songs but more childish, old school. Ending Yumemiru Otome by Mai Mizuhashi is some sort of dance. Najimi is played by an experienced VA, Masumi Asano (Black Rose from .Hack games). You might recognize Justice as Chad from Bleach. |

It gets it done. Goundbreaking anime, not necessarily. Entertaining, yes. Confusing, no. Rather straightforward. Ending won't perplex your brain. I didn't despise it or anything. It makes sense. There's a summer beach bikini episode, love hotel ep, and neko girl caf?© feature (one such place exists for real in Toyko http://www.toranoana.jp/with_cat/). No Christmas special or hotsprings. If the series was any longer they might have delved into more of how it was like when Najimi and Justice were growing up (was Justice always that tall or did he have a massive growth spurt somewhere?). It is amicable how Justice looks out for Najimi. |

Because of the subject matter I wouldn't be showing this to my 9-10 year old cousins who love watching Naruto on Cartoon Network. |
