Blood: The Last Vampire

» written by Wai Yung (Wayne) Chim [Discuss]

At the Yokota Base in Japan, a nervous American military is on the brink of the Vietnam War. But a greater threat exists within the walls of the heavily-guarded compound: Vampires.
A team of top-secret undercover agents learn of these blood-sucking fiends, and dispatch the mysterious Saya to hunt down and destroy them. This beautiful yet dangerous girl must use her extraordinary abilities and lethal Japanese sword to save the humans from these sinister creatures of the night..

The Breakdown
Saya, pretty but deadly hehe. What’s with this!? A female vampire slayer in a school uniform? Blood is a good watch, and its not confusing at all, just straight forward throughout the show.

» The Pros
Anybody who has seen Blood, will have to give credit for the animation it has. In the train scene, that train has to be the most realistic train I’ve ever seen in an anime up to date. Other scenes that left a mark in my mind are, the fighting scenes where Saya would do her stuff, and the background sceneries. Another pro that Blood contains is the sound, where some of the characters speak both Japanese and English fluently, and the effects of the slicing and other background sounds such as jets, and just the music that helps pump the movie during the action scenes are cool and syncs with the mood of the scene.

» The Cons
For me the only cons in Blood are the length of it, the annoying woman (nurse) and the ugly hooker characters (is that really a con?). Blood’s running time is 45 minutes, everything is fast paced, one scene moves on to another quickly. Like in 10-20 minutes into the movie, it is already shown to the audience what’s going on and keeps on going without any slow down until it ends. The annoying woman is funny during one scene, where she was running from the demon and bumps into a security guard and … well, let’s just say I got a good laugh during that scene. Without her, Blood would be quite different. Now to the hookers, they kind of look like men to me. One actually sounded like one. (Ed. - Because they were Alpha, they were. tsk tsk)

» Animation
The backgrounds and effects are really impressive, you have to check it out to believe me.

» Sound
A good mix of English and Japanese in an anime, the sound effects were also well done.

» Story
It seems to me that Blood was kind of rushed, 45 minutes of run time seemed like too little. The story to me is, that Saya a vampire slayer came to slay the demons and protect humans from them. (ED. - It had something to do with a war too…it was very vague)

» Recommend
You must check out Blood just for its animation, I know I know, that animation doesn’t tell an anime as a whole, but who the hell cares when its so realistic!!
