Synopsis
Satome Kazuya is both a college student and an electrical engineer. Despite his numerous failures, he is persistent on completing the design for a Doraemon, a robotic squid with its own artificial intelligence. By accident, he electronically orders May, a 12-inch Cyberdine Corp. maid type robot hence the name of the series Hand Maid May.

The Breakdown
Excellent anime. Very entertaining. Not as deep as Evangelion but the ending does pose a question to reflect on.

» The Pros

The series questions the difference between human intelligence and artificial intelligence in regards to memory acquisition. Kazuya designed his Doraemon leaving a portion of the hard drive empty so as for it to build its own memory space. The robots are thus more humanoid and expressive than those seen in Chobits acting on their own free will similar to Multi in To Heart.

» The Cons

The series uses time displacement in a puzzling way. Supposedly Kazuya is in the process of designing Ikariya, which becomes the blueprint of all the CBD units. Yet, the Cyberdine Corp. is already well established in his era by Nanbara's son Commando Z, the marketable company president, and Kazuya's son Cyber X-san, who creates new models of maid type robots. The reason behind time travel was to obtain Kazuya's help in thwarting a virus, caused by Nanbara, that would render all robots, except for May, inoperative in the future. Make sense.

» Animation

10	Similar to Love Hina, the animation is bright and vibrant reflecting the frivolous and cheery atmosphere. Limited computer designed schemes.

» Sound

10	Opening theme 'Jump Meippai Dakishimete!' is catchy. Easily gets stuck in your head.

» Story

The series is cramped into 11 episodes. Each succeeding episode introduces another Cyberdine Corp. robot ranging from the troublesome Rena-chan to the intelligent Kei whose desire to understand Kazuya's behavior leads her to falling in love with him. Another Tenchi Muyo! or Love Hina look-alike where the females are attracted to a central male character. However there is a complex love triangle or square between Nanbara and May, May and Kazuya, Kazuya and the other robots, and finally Kazuya and Kasumi, the only likely human candidate.

8	Female viewers might be dismayed by the dominance of male fan service in this one.
