Synopsis
A young mercenary named Gatsu (Guts) fights for his fortune on the front lines. There he meets Griffith, who is charismatic, graceful, and deadly. Griffith’s mercenary company, the Band of the Hawk, is a powerful military force and the talk of elite political circles. Between the strength of Gatsu’s anger and Griffith’s ambition, the face of Midland will never be the same.

The Breakdown
What more can I say? Berserk isn’t all about killing, love is involved, broken friendships, jealousy and hatred are the primary aspects that make up Berserk.
» The Pros
Berserk, first of all is a sword fighting for all you sword freaks out there. I have to say, the action in Berserk is fast paced and bloody.
The whole series is based on Gatsu’s flashback, from when he was a teenager and took out the ruthless knight to when he was known as the “Century Killer.”
The story is just plain awesome, growing up as Gatsu was hard, because he was tortured by his stepfather and was put through hard times, much like slavery.
Because of this, he has built a killer skill like no other. Weaving a heavy sword with a length of about his body size, he completes his missions commanded by Griffith, who wants to be apart of the royalty as a peasant. He achieves that along with his Band of the Hawk, as the country’s best military. The real story unfolds from there…

» The Cons
In the beginning, about episodes one to eight, it put me to sleep. I expected action throughout the series, which of course there is, but there are just unbearable boring discussions at times. The opening theme by Penpals is just weird. As most people will say, “The theme of the song is unsuitable, because it sounds so happy and light.” I was hoping for a darker themed song, something fast paced but with a dark feeling to it.
The ending of Berserk is another thing to question. It left me confused.

Now, I know I complained a lot about the opening theme song, but its this song that brings the overall sound value down. Not to mention approximately 70% of the show was screams of people being slew and only 30% were character conversations. (What’s Berserk without screams of people being slew? Well, I’d say drop it to 50% at least, that’s my opinion though) |

There was a moment in which I fell asleep, because of the story development by the use of conversations. After the first few episodes though, the story really got started and sleep was something I was having trouble with : |

Do yourself a favor and add this title to your collection, the only other series that can probably compete with Berserk is Rurouni Kenshin, OVA’s that is. |
