Yusuke Kinoshita, age 18, recently graduated from High School. Having lost a bet because his test scores were anything but great, Yusuke agrees to spend the entire summer vacation working at his father’s Pia Carrot resturant. What seems like endless hours wasted away washing dishes, shelving boxes, ringing up customers, and sprucing up the sidewalk and storage areas later turns out to become an experience Yusuke will never forget…
Review
Pia Carrot is directed by Kan Fukumoto (La Blue Girl, Twin Angels, Venus 5, Words Worth). The name Pia Carrot translates to Go, Go! Waitress! In English. It is based on the PC hentai/dating simulation game developed by Cocktail Soft in 1996 and later ported to the Sega Saturn system by Cocktail Soft/Kindle Imagine Develop (KID) on March 12, 1998. The English DVD release dates back to November 23, 2001. The storyline follows Satomi’s ending, the hardest person to win over.
I am proud to announce Animesou.com’s first hentai review. First to answer what is a hentai. Hentai (pronounced hen-tie) in Japanese literally means sexually perverted. It has come to stand for Japanese animated pornography. It is said that hentai mangas account for a quarter of the total manga industry’s output. Hentai predominantly consists of animated females in extremely sexually explicit and unreal situations satisfying one’s own personal fantasy. There can be rape, and it doesn’t have to be by a human either. The act can be performed by an animal, demon, monster, even a Pokemon. Watching this kind of aggressive pornography is thought to relieve tension and sexual frustration. Of course, there are those who enjoy watching the absolute force and barbarity played out on the screen (Christina Kinney, The Emergence of Japanese Pornography into the United States., University of Florida, East Asian Lang. & Lit).
The Breakdown
The animated version of the PC game. It is just like playing the role of Yusuke, going through the dating sim game, and scoring points with each of the girls.
» The Pros
Pia Carrot is a light hentai. Only the 5 minutes of each episode devoted to sex. There are nude bathing scenes, nipples protruding out through clothing, and panty shots all of which are apparent more and more animes (Golden Boy and Mahoromatic for example). The last episode of Excel Saga had Excel licking Hyatt. Excel Saga's OVA Puni Puni Poemi features females moaning. Pia Carrot has kissing, tongue action, breast fondling, oral sex, and banging the female genitalia. This is a Pro for me, but it can be considered a Con for others. There are more extreme hentais as afore mentioned where every scene is devoted to sex. Women are thought of as objects, slaves, tools, or prizes. It can look painful, gory, and messy with semen spraying.
I am glad Yusuke doesn't do his own sister. In the Saturn game, by default if you end up failing to arouse one of the girls, Yusuke ends up purchasing birthday presents for his sister. In the anime, Yusuke and Rumi, both wearing kimonos, attend the Summer Festival and watch the fireworks although Shoko and Satomi meet them up later that evening.

» The Cons
Hentai series tend to be shorter than most animes. Yusuke is an idiot. I don't see how any of the girls except for Shoko-chan, who idolizes Yusuke, can fall for him. The girls' names that start with the letter S might be confusing at first. There is Satomi, Yusuke's classmate from High School, and his childhood friend Shoko, both are waitresses at Pia Carrot. Shiho is the manager of the restaurant. What distinguishes them are their hair colors and personalities. What I don't like is how Reika uses Yusuke. She hits on him in the back alley, but leaves him hanging with an empty kiss. In the park playground, she says that she likes him but has a sad face, not smiling. In the shower, Reika is deep in thought, puzzled. The next day, after stealing Yusuke's virginity, she doesn't even speak to Yusuke.

One of the waitresses in the first few seconds of episode 1 looks like Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi. The animation style is a little old, but not bad. During the ending is a window displaying clips from that episode. These they keep clean without hentai. |

» Sound
7.0 |
There is no opening theme at all, but Pia Carrot does have an ending song that is cheerful and upbeat like Ah! My Goddess's Congratulations. Pia Carrot features the voices of adult film stars Inari Vachs (as Shiho), Gina Ryder (as Satomi), Devon, and Charmaine Star. They could be good actors in the adult entertainment industry, but they are just awful as voice actors. Compared to native japanese speakers, they don't stress the emotion enough if you know what I mean and the Japanese voices sound sweeter. |

The series begins with a pleasant Welcome to Pia Carrot greeting by Reika. The episodes are labeled as different menu numbers. The first menu is all about Reika flirting with Yusuke. It's funny how Yusuke holds his crotch and says it's not working. Reika comments that everyone is like that their first time. Menu two is where Shoko-chan gets her chance. Yusuke is discomforted how Reika and Shiho are leaving. Satomi is also acting strangely. Shiho pities him. Menu three Satomi's jealousy of Shoko-chan gets the best of her. Yusuke realizes that his soul mate is Satomi. At the end of the series, the shocking truth that Shiho and Yusuke's dad... |
