Review
Onegai Sensei translated Please Teacher is a short 12 episode series plus an OVA which really can be considered to be episode 13. As you watch the series, you will come to see why it is called Onegai Sensei. It comes to represent the ups and downs in a relationship. The questions that are raised - Will everything work out? Are we better off going our separate ways? Then the realization of the true feelings you have for one another. Please be with me. Please listen for I have a confession to make. Then to move forward even if there is sadness. Making good for lost time, and ever accelerating.

» The Pros
I can definitely see the resemblance to Ah! My Goddess. It surprised me that I waited so long to watch Onegai Sensei. It starts off exactly like Ah! My Goddess with a woman from out of this world appearing before Kei and in a short period of time they hook up. The anime series Narue no Sekai puts it plainly in one of the episode titles: My girlfriend is an alien! Mizuho-sensei and her family member's alien getups are comparable to the three goddess' outfits. Maho, Mizuho's younger sister, acts a lot like Skuld who disapproves of Kei and Mizuho's marriage and only needs time to adjust to the situation. Mizuho's mother is like Urd. Even though it is only 5 episodes, the plotline of Ah! My Goddess carries over to Onegai Sensei, the memory erase, Mizuho parting analogous to Belldandy forced to return to heaven, the whole romance.

» The Cons
Yea Alpha without a doubt will attack people who bash Onegai Sensei, those anime purists who like action only and hate lovey dovey stuff. Some will say that the series is too clich?©. Coincidences are a bit overused. Too much attention is given to the minor characters. The story can seem a little unbelievable but hey that's anime for you.

Kei is the smiting image of Keitaro from Love Hina only with a lighter hair color. He even has the name to match, sort of. Now that makes three look-alikes including Mutsumi Goro from Angel's Tail (Tenshi no Shippo). Marie looks like a Teletubbie. There's a 180-degree turn during the ending song flipping Marie and the picturesque scene, progressing the time of day. Then a final rotation and zoom to make it feel like you are meeting the sky just as the lyrics suggest. Doesn't Mizuho-sensei look adorable without her glasses? |

After watching so many animes I can almost recognize certain voice actors, maybe not their Japanese names but from what other anime series they have appeared in. I've been pointing this out lately in all my recent anime reviews. I find it remarkable how in Japan they take the time to match the voices to best suit the character. That doesn't seem to be the case in the American dub. Inoue Kikuko is Mizuho Kazami, who carries over the same air as the beautiful and sweet Belldandy from Ah! My Goddess. Marie sounds like a baby, but Mizuho can cry like one. The character Koishi Herikawa, voiced by Kawasumi Ayako, is definitely familiar (Aoi - Ai Yori Aoshi, Mahoro - Mahoromatic). Interesting how Hoshi Souichirou (Kaoru Hanabishi - Ai Yori Aoshi) who plays as Kei Kusanagi works together again with Kawasumi as potential lovers in the anime. Finally, I noticed this one right off the bat. Tamura Yukari is Kei's classmate Ichigo Morino who is also Mai from Kanon. Her voice is low toned and emotionless. One line says it all - What are you doing, Kusanagi-kun? You're quite a bold peeing tom...gyah. Ichigo is sly, short, and clever more like Ruri-Ruri from Nadesico. Each episode begins with a short dialogue that blends into the introductory theme. The opening song Shooting Star is oriental in the middle, and the ending Sora no Mori de is reassuring. |

By the time you get to episode 12 the series will seem like it is starting over. I'm glad there is an OVA, which is a side episode that continues off from where episode 12 ended. The OVA is perverted and can be thought of as the last episode of Excel Saga, fan service the entire way, which is why I decided to include it in this review. |
