» The Pros
The Duel Monsters storyline continues, linking the before two seasons of Yugioh, Battle City but more so Duelist Kingdom. Pegasus is not dead, nor has vanished off the face of the earth as stated in the english. Doma can be better called the Duelist Kingdom rematches. Kaiba gets his revenge on Pegasus (?); Mai goes up against Joey with high emotional intensity; Rex Raptor and Inspector Haga (Weevil) face off with Joey and Yugi, respectively. All their decks are supped up. Mai's Harpy Lady deck is nearly unstoppable, rising through the ashes like a Phoenix. Yugi has a new fearsome looking Kuribo. Joey got his Red Eyes Black Dragon back and has a new Knight of Black Dragon card, while Kaiba has the counterpart Knight of White Dragon. Some of the old strategies are reused like Magical Hats, Crush Card Virus, Metal Morph the Red Eyes Black Dragon, Toon World and Blue Eyes Toon Dragon. Of course new strategies are added. The three heroes, Yugi, Kaiba, and Joey, in order to combat the powers of Oreikarukosu are blessed with the abilities of the three Legendary Dragons which literally take their decks to a whole new level. The Legendary Dragons have the ability to fuse with any monster or trap card to produce a new monster making the combinations limitless. Joey's dragon Hellmaster fuses to produce and an equipable weapon. Doma features the finest battles of the series. The 3 Swordsmen of Doma are a force to be reckoned with as their destinies are intertwined with Yugi, Seto, and Joey. Amelda has personal issues with Kaiba Corporation. Both Joey and Varon love Mai and would stake their lives to help her. Varon's armor deck suits his tough, fighting spirit. Raphael has a guardian deck, comparable to Neia's (Noa's) spiritual monster deck. Raphael tests his faith against Yugi's Heart of the Cards, tempting Yugi to draw out the evil from the deepest recesses of his heart. In Doma, YUGI LOSES!!! That's right you heard correctly. Absolutely legitimate, a real defeat. Not a surrender like to Rebecca, and not forced defeat in order not to harm Kaiba in the Duelist Kingdom Tournament. With his fighting spirit broken, you see a match between Yugi and Yami Yugi! Which one will prevail?

» The Cons
No Bakura sigh. Expect to see him soon though in the Memory Arc. I would have liked to see Kaiba defeat Dartz, giving him bragging rights over Yugi. Now is Yugioh too kiddy? Have I myself become too addicted to notice? Kiddy like DBZ/Sailor Moon or pokemon/digimon that when you mention the word anime to the general public those are the first few series that come to mind. Like Card Captor Sakura, Yugioh has a completely different storyline unedited. In their original japanese they can all be a real treat. What makes them kiddy is the commercialism. If you own the real life cards, eat the breakfast cereal, dress up as a Yugioh character for Halloween, own the Matel Duel Disk tray, have posters, stickers, a Yugioh lunch pail, binder, backpack, pencils and other accessories, you deserve to be slapped if not under the age of ten.

No Serenity, but in her place is the return of a revamped Rebecca. She has a total unrecognizable makeover in character design and attitude from what was seen after Duelist Kingdom. The white attire is replaced by black for Mai, which carries its own symbolism for her character. Yugioh is proud of designing spiky haired characters, and Varon is not an exception. I, and many before me, mistook Amelda as a girl at first sight. Raphael is a welcoming change who has a buff body build rather than the stick like character designs. The new Duel Disk Tray used by the Doma subjects is nightmarish and fiendish. The ending episodes give you a glimpse of the animation to be used in the Memory Arc - numerous images of the Pharaoh and Obelisk pounding a God Hand Crusha! on Daibound, the strongest Duel Monster to date. |

Best opening theme for the series, Warriors, which actually began way back in episode 132 of Battle City. Paramount background music every time either one of the three Legendary Dragons is summoned or when Oreikarukosu's Boundary field magic card is played. I could have sworn that Dartz's voice was the same as Himura Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin). The EN theme would have to be edited for the gang affiliation and the spray painted King of Duel in the background else every psychotic child with access to those materials and unsupervised would go around the neighborhood and paint the walls. Then the parents would sue KidsWB saying Yugioh made their children do it because it looked cool. KidsWB never airs the EN sequence anyway. |
